Literature Text

I try to help others; I try to be sure.
Though they stare me down as though I am impure.
I try to stay strong; I try to look cheery.
Though they claim my eyes appear to be weary.

Why try to please those who will only kick you down?
A decade has gone wearing tears of a clown.
Patience is virtue, though it also grows thin:
Rewarding with naught but a flask of gin.
Though there the very idea is wrong:
Should that be my friend, I would rather seem strong.

But why bother night and day?
There must be another way.
Sadly the cruel surround my life,
Their presence sharp as a knife.
I cannot shake them and yet I try
to keep them pleased, though I ask Why?

Why bother with those who do not care?
Who will not even stop to stare?
Just try to be nice, and they will step you down,
While you're hiding behind the tears of a clown.

Nothing is good enough; nothing is right.
They will only leave you at the flick of a light.
For years there is torment, it will not go away,
Even when you wish for it to pass away.

Nothing feels right in this world anymore.
Though the world is the same with its nightmares galore.
Filled with people who take and reward with a frown,
So for one decade more lies the tears of a clown.
